The municipal music school of Ratingen teaches about 30 different instruments or subjects. For children in collaborating primary schools our teachers also offer music lessons under the project name JeKits (see below).
To register for music lessons, please use our online forms. For regular lessons, please use the „Musikschultarif” form, if your child is visiting a JeKits-collaboration school and wants to continue after JeKits I, you have the option to use the „JeKits-Tarif” form (group lessons only).
If your child is visiting one of the listed schools, he or she will automatically receive JeKits I in the first grade for free.
After the first year, your child can decide if he or she want to continue with instrumental lessons in the second grade. Those lessons are no longer free of charge, but there are fee exemptions if you receive social benefits and send us the corresponding benefit notice.
For JeKits II or higher you can register your child online as soon as the JeKits form will be opened. Please note that for JeKits II or higher you will sign a contract for one school year. To cancel the contract you must send us a letter of termination no later than after the first lesson.
For more information about the project in general you can visit theofficial project website in english.
In addition to music lessons, ensembles are an essential part of our work. The rehearsals naturally result in a large number of concerts every year. The small ensembles for guitars, strings, wind instruments, percussion and band play an important role in the departmental concerts. Other ensembles are the youth symphony orchestra, the youth wind orchestra, string pre-orchestra, wind pre-orchestra and different choirs.
Once a year, the ensembles present themselves at the “Great Music School Concert”.
In addition to the regular ensemble work there are special projects occasionally, such as the performance of the musical “Herr der Diebe”, in which the choirs and youth symphony orchestra put on a musical performance as well as displaying their acting talent.
By participating in competitions such as the Sparkassen Sponsorship Award or "Jugend musiziert," our students can showcase their skills and gain valuable experience.
For students with exceptional talent, there is an opportunity to participate in our musica nobile support program and take additional courses, including music theory, to prepare for a possible future study in this field.
